Biography

DJ Jamma, born Gregg Goddard in Barbados, is a young promising disc-jockey who specialises in old-dub and soca mixing. Quite a paradox, since this genre of music is well beyond his 23 years. Despite this, DJ Jamma has proven to be quite knowledgeable and proficient in this style, holding his own against some of the older and “more experienced” DJs of today. It is therefore no wonder his name originated from one of the popular old dub “tunes” ‘RAMMA JAMMA” However, his repertoire of music does not end there, this DJ has also shown he has exceptional versatility, excelling in several other genres (hip-hop, reggae and dance to name a few). He has proven that he can recognise the style of music desired based on his crowd and deliver without hesitation, catering to their musical satisfaction.

Early Career

Music was always an influential part of his life and at the age of 15 he first began DJing where he was trained by his mentor Andre”Rebel” Elias. During his early years, DJ Jamma gained a substantial amount of experience playing in Trinidad and Tobago, where he studied engineering at the UWI campus. There he played at sessions both on and off campus, spinning at events such as Xcape 2 Euphoria (hosted by Uni Events at Euphoria Lounge), the popular UWI fete Short Pants (hosted by Barbados Student Association) , and Earth D’KonXept: (hosted by Uni Events/Y.KonXeptz at Earth Restaurant and Bar), just to name a few.

Back in Barbados, he has spun at clubs such as the Boat Yard “Taboo Saturdays”, the Woodpecker Pub “Drinks free Tuesdays”, and Club NXS “New year’s in the gap”

Collaborations

DJ Jamma worked as a solo DJ for the majority of his career, however in 2007, he founded the group “Duburs Entertainment” along with long time friends DJ Philz (Philip O'Neal) and Selecta Monzie (Ramon Harvey) and together they started the popular fete “Duburs Wednesdays” at Woodpecker Pub. In 2008, after having placed his mark as a competent and increasingly popular DJ, he joined his mentor Rebel as the resident DJ of RebelVibes Entertainment, and in so doing expanded the scope of his DJing to include events such as “Xtreme Aid” and “Party: Formerly known as Saturdays” (Club Xtreme), “101 Wednesdays” (Boat Yard) and $10 Old Dub and Soca Wednesdays (Bump and Wine Cafe). He has also played an intricate role for RebelVibes the Band, Crop Over 2009 and 2010. Other groups who he has played for include, Nova Boyz, Nevadaparty.net and Fete-Aholics.

Competitions

In 2009 DJ Jamma entered the world of competitive DJing, where he placed 3rd in the UWI Sound off, hosted at the St.Augustine Campus in Trinidad. Later he qualified for the Barbados rounds of the Heineken Green Synergy competition and placed 2nd.
